Week 11 - Cold-Hearted Killers
This is my first foray during The Challenge into the jazz world, and I’m excited about all the possibilities this song will have for instrumentation eventually. There’s lots of big, wide empty spaces for soloing and noodling… guitar, vibes, muted trumpet, marimba, fretless bass, keys of some sort, whatever…. I’m definitely not the right singer for this tune, but can see a female vox with a smooth tone working splendidly. How about you, Coby? Or Corry? Or Glenda?
By the way, Week 9’s missing lyrics still haven’t been slotted in. Is nobody going to step forward with some incredibly poignant, perfect lyrics to fill the void? I can’t even listen to that song as it is, with that goofball muttering his way through those lines. If you need to rewrite the first two lines of that section as well, have at ‘er!

| A stolen smile, From across the room, A passing touch that’s over way too soon, She don’t know, Far as I can tell, And if she does she learned to hide it well, Turn away now, I can’t live this secret life, Are we strangers wasting time? Midnight comes, Walk away now, Can’t live this secret life, Are we strangers, wasting time? |
I like it El! The underlying rhythm has a kind of ‘Mission Impossible’ crossed with ‘Alfred Hitchcock presents’ feel to it that fits really well with the lyrics. It’s that creepy “Is something bad about to happen?” kind of melody. I agree with you…perhaps a sultry female voice to sing it.
