This song’s an abrupt change from the last couple of weeks. Just when I’m lulling you to sleep with the love ballads, it’s nice to hit y’all in the stomach with more of a rocker. Sorry in advance!
Big thanks to mi amigo, James Lee, this week. I really just filled in the blanks on this one…

It’s your monster balad…your “November Rain”, your “Stairway to Heaven”, your “2 out of 3 Ain’t Bad”. Remi and I have just designated this as our “Slow Dance Friday” song.
Hit us in the stomach with a rocker?…I think not…maybe we’re more hardcore.
Love, “Paul” and Warren and Remi.
Considering what you did to Paul, I’d agree that you’re definitely more hardcore than that. it’s important to note that when I say it’s a rocker, my frame of reference is Blue Rodeo.
I saw this more as a ballad than a rocker, although I like the heavy, sustained feel the guitar gives. Nice job James!! The lyrics are good, particularly the rhyme system used in the verses. The melody (verse, bridge, chorus) excellent.
Keep it up!!
I think Mutt Lange (sp?) would have a hay day with this one. Sounds a little like early Def Lepard…. maybe just a bit?
I actually met Rick Allen (the one armed drummer) at a Kirtan with Krishna Das, maybe we can track him down and get it to the band.
xoxo
The songs just keep getting better and better. This one is my new favorite but I already had a couple of other favorites so I have to keep changing my mind.
Okay, okay, okay. This song is best when it is loud and the lyrics really fit the tempo and darkness of the song. You did some great work with it. Thanks
Graham & I both enjoyed this song. Music and lyrics are great together with guitar, of course I might be a little bit prejudiced. Am enjoying this whole challenge. Keep up the good work.
I like it. Very strong and definitive.
Definately among the top 4
holy crap, did Def Leppard pay a visit to Langley?
No, Def Leppard did not pay a visit to Langley but Eliot did do the drums with just one arm.
I thought the lyrics had power, for sure. A real inspired effort! The music … it sounded a little bit retread from the 80’s. Know what I mean? The big, chorusy electric guitar and repetitive secondary guitar pattern through the lead up to your chorus.
Doug is right - a little Def Leppard’ish. They were great, but they had their day. This song could be so much better without the cliches. Sorry to be blunt, because I’m still in awe with the variety and quality of the music you’re doing. Please keep it up!
Best of luck,
Richard.
Wow. I am arriving at this website a little late at Week 13 - life has been too busy - but I thought that Maybe Tonight was fantastic so now I will be hooked. It is a song that sticks in your head and makes you want dry ice smoke and strobe lights. Eliot, you are a rock star!
I like this one, El - and it’s the kids’ favourite too. They were pretty impressed: “Hey, it’s Eliot singing”, so beware, you will be treated as a full-on rock star next time you’re over.
I do prefer this to some of the others, maybe because of the “harder” rock? As opposed to the Blue Rodeo style, that is…
This one also felt more marketable. And don’t knock the eighties, anyone, take a look at all the concerts this spring/summer! Nothing but retro coming to town…
You’re a changed woman ever since you got Rock Band, Tamsin. I never, ever in a million years thought I’d hear you say you prefered a certain song because it Rocked Harder.
That’s awesome. Looks good on ya, girl.
Hi Bud
Not hit single material but definitely a perfectly respectable album filler. Ok, Ok … you know I like the punchy raunchy stuff.

Takes me back to our Def Leppard days! Does Paula still have those red leather pants and bandanna scarf? I thought the second verse could be “up volumed” a bit instead of going back down to the same level as the first verse after the chorus. Kinda felt like you were building us up just to knock us back down again.
