“Your Great Awakening” is basically about that tiny little space in time between deep, dark depression following a life-changing event (death, break-up, sudden loss of job, INSERT_TRAUMATIC_THING_HERE) and when you step out of it “bleary-eyed greeting the dawn”, as Jim Cuddy would say. You know - when you’ve reinvented yourself, have left the past behind and you’re finally ready to start kicking ass and taking names! When everywhere you look you see new opportunity, exciting new things to try, and everybody’s suddenly good-looking. ;)

Yadda yadda yadda. I’m sure you get the idea, because everybody’s been there. I know it may be a bit soapy sounding, but picture Coldplay or Keane doing this tune instead of me, and you may give it more latitude…

    This is def. sound track material. Actually felt the tears welling up.
    Quite love the way you sing it, but yes. I could imagine Mr. Paltrow bouncing away in piano stool belting his heart out. Such an “easy” sound to it.

    Loved the start, very simple and effective, fine vocals dude. Familiar chord structure that led to the cheese factor for me, but easy listening chick audience would go for it I suppose. Too much syrup for me. Something didn’t work for me in the chorus - I was waiting for the song to give me that wow factor and it didn’t happen. Maybe a higher vocal at that point (I’m thinking female singer with some volume) or better hook or chord structure. I flinched at the clique shays in last couple of verses. Obvious talent here, keep it happening and ignore naysayers :-)

    As per yuze, I was impressed by the ‘Mister’ musicality, but was disappointed the song didn’t get airborne. I think you need someone with the extra vocal range around while the creative process is occurring to discover and plant the dynamite. And stop singing so well because then your lyrics will need more attention.(Part of the great awakening?)…Your pal Rob.

    Your lyrics are improving each week. You must find it tough finding the line between Bryan Adams style cliches that you here coming from a mile away and the Tragically Hip’s “an inch an hour two feet a day…” type tricky lyrics. Keep it up!
